Solar Roof Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world - with less inhabitants than North Rhine-Westphalia. Half of the people living in the vast rural areas that are little electrified. The power grid cannot guarantee security of supply. Therefore, the Kazakh government has decided to modernize the energy supply, which is covered mainly by oil and coal, and build more than 1.000 MW renewable gerneration capacity by 2020.
In the course of the planned collaboration of DPU Investment GmbH with the Eurasian National University in Astana and AO "National Company" Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary "in Baikonur cooperation for promotion and establishment of photovoltaics in Kazakhstan was agreed.
In 2010 inorder to tap the developing Kazakh market for German companies the idea was born to build on the roof of the Eurasian National University in Astana and the spaceport in Baikonur, a pilot plant for demonstration of solar power generation and storage, and to convey a wide technically interested public.
Launched by the German Energy Agency (dena) as part of the „Export Initiative Renewable Energies“ of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy sponsored pilot project was as part of the „dena Solar Roofs Program for Foreign Market Development“ from the German Energy Agency succesfully realized and ceremoniously handed over and put into operation on 28. September 2012 in Astana and 30. October 2012 in Baikonur.

Pilot Project Spaceport Baikonur
Parallel to the plant in Astana, a 10 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof of the department of Baikonur AO "National Company" Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary " will be installed. Polycrystalline modules from SolarWorld are used. They are used for power supply to the display unit in the foyer of the main administration and for feeding into the home network. The expected energy production is approximately 13.600 kWh.
Participations
The pilot projects was implemented at the initiative of the DPU Investment GmbH in cooperation prestigious German companys in the solar industry, the Eurasian National University L.N. Gumilev and AO „National Company“ Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary realized. The German Energy Agency (dena) was promoter.
In Astana, the pilot project was realized with the participation of BAE Batterien GmbH, Kinetics Germany GmbH, REIS ROBOTICS and SCHMID Group.
On the Baikonur spaceport, the pilot project was planned and constructed with the participation of SolarWorld.
