Tajikistan - climate-neutral electricity production within the Central Asia Water Initiative

Planning and implementation of a solar power plant at the Nurek hydroelectric power station in cooperation with German industry to compensate the reduced power generation in the autumn and winter period (reduced output approx 450 MW due to lack of water in the reservoir).

The plan is to use the hydroelectric power station Nurek as an energy storage through an intelligent energy management system to compensate the time of day and weather-dependent electricity generation of solar power plant (about 2,800 hours of sunshine annually).

Tajikistan as part of Central Asia, bordering Afghanistan and point of intersection between Russia and China is gaining geostrategic, geopolitical and economic importance. The economy of Tajikistan has been growing for over 10 years at an annual rate 7 to 10% (GDP). Requirement for further development is not only the establishment of market economy structures, but also a stable power supply. The government planed an investment program in the energy sector of about US $ 2.6 billion from 2013 to 2016, among others for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, the modernization of the Nurek hydroelectric power station and the construction of new power lines.

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world - with less inhabitants than North Rhine-Westphalia. Half of the people living in the vast rural areas that are little electrified. The power grid cannot guarantee security of supply. Therefore, the Kazakh government has decided to modernize the energy supply, which is covered mainly by oil and coal, and build more than 1.000 MW renewable gerneration capacity by 2020.

Based on the initiative of the DPU Investment GmbH to open up new markets for the photovoltaic (PV) a cooperation for the promotion and establishment of photovoltaics in Russia was appointed with the OAO „NPP KVANT“, located in Moscow and working for the Russian space program, in 2009.

With KVANT the DPU Investment could win a competent partner in Russia who successfully develops and produces modules for power generation for satellites and spacecraft for more than 50 years.
